Environmental monitoring

Monitoring landfill gas

Legal requirements vary by country, but landfill operators are required, to different standards, to monitor and control landfill gas on the sites they manage. Indeed the licence for a site may well stipulate that the operator has to control the gas emissions for an indefinite period, even after the site is no longer in active use. Methane can continue to be generated long after a site is capped and closed.

The use of gas analysers is now a key waste management tool in achieving compliance worldwide. The equipment used to monitor landfill gas must be reliable in harsh conditions, ATEX certified and should ideally have MCERTS.

Geotech provide equipment, software, servicing and technical backup through portable and fixed equipment:

Monitoring liquids on landfill sites

Monitoring of liquids on landfill sites is now as much of an issue as monitoring gas. Operators are required to comply with environmental legislation and need to be able to measure water levels on site, identify contaminants and deal with them.

Geotech’s equipment has been developed to function reliably in this extremely harsh environment and can also play a vital role in managing consensate and leachate to enhance gas production for power generation.
