Carbon dioxide monitoring

Incubator verification

Our portable carbon dioxide analysers are used in laboratories in incubators for the verification of IVF and within stem cell research. Laboratory incubators need to run at a constant temperature, humidity and CO2 level (5%) to maintain the correct conditions for optimum cell growth, embryo cultures and IVF. Whilst incubators themselves will have a built-in system for monitoring CO2, a portable CO2 analyser can quickly and accurately confirm the CO2, O2, humidity and temperature levels. This functionality is not only required by lab technicians, but is also an important part of the toolkit for engineers when incubators are being serviced.

Indoor air quality, border control and food processing

Carbon dioxide analysers are also used for monitoring indoor air quality. The background level of CO2 in air is approximately 300-400ppm, and any significant increase over time can cause issues with staff working within buildings (sick building syndrome). Monitoring the levels of indoor CO2 is therefore important, as well as maintaining appropriate levels of O2, temperature and humidity. Other applications for carbon dioxide monitoring include food processing, composting and border control, whereby checking for elevated levels of CO2 inside vehicles could indicate if they are carrying any stowaways.
